8.0Halo Campaign Evolved delivers a tight, 10-to-12-hour blast from start to finish that perfectly balances modern conventions with classic magic.

8.5Ghost Recon Wildlands is a massive, open-world tactical shooter that drops you and up to three friends (or AI squadmates) behind enemy lines in a beautiful but deadly recreation of Bolivia. Your overarching goal is to systematically dismantle the Santa Blanca drug cartel, hunting down regional bosses across varied biomes to eventually draw out their elusive leader, El Sueño. The gameplay loop is a highly addictive mix of reconnaissance and execution—you'll spend your time using drones to scout enemy positions, coordinating synchronized sniper shots, and infiltrating heavily guarded outposts using a massive arsenal of customizable weapons and hijacked vehicles.

OMEA is a pure, unadulterated RPG tabletop or adventure game-like experience brought to digital life. For this early hands-on, we were given access to a single, self-contained demo adventure called Odin’s Trial, where you play as a Viking washed up on a frozen, unforgiving island. Your goal is simple: survive the freezing cold, navigate the locals, and hunt or survive a mythical Beast. But how you go about that is entirely up to you. There are no dialogue trees here. You have a 512-character box to type or speak your actions, and the game’s custom narrative engine— supposedly trained on a massive library of creative fiction—interprets your words and continues the story.

7.6Supermassive Games has carved out a very specific, entertaining niche for couch co-op horror nights, and Directive 8020 continues that tradition well. I recently ran through the campaign with two mostly non-gamer friends, splitting the character roster among the three of us. As a gripping, interactive sci-fi movie that you can theorize about on the couch while the plot unfolds, it does its job admirably. However, as an actual video game, it introduces a few clunky mechanics and pacing issues that occasionally drag down the stellar setting.

9.2We finally have a new James Bond game in 007 First Light, and it completely blew past my expectations. Everyone assumed the studio behind the modern Hitman trilogy would just slap a tuxedo on Agent 47 and call it a day, but this is a completely different beast. It trades the massive puzzle-box sandboxes for a tightly paced, highly cinematic origin story that genuinely feels like a blockbuster Hollywood film from start to finish. It’s a wild ride that nails the raw, reckless energy of a young James Bond while delivering some of the best action mechanics I've played in years.

9.0Persona 5 Strikers rolls up not as some cheap, slapped-together spin-off, but as Persona 5-2 in everything but name and combat. It trades the turn-based menus for frantic real-time action, giving us a summer road trip that feels incredibly refreshing, tightly focused, and surprisingly essential to the overall lore.

8.5Resident Evil Requiem throws you into a gorgeous, terrifying experiment that mashes the creeping, claustrophobic terror of the modern titles right up against the heavy-hitting, battle-tested action of the classics. It is a wildly ambitious juggling act that absolutely nails the moment-to-moment gameplay, even if it occasionally trips over its own feet trying to rush you to the finish line.

Infection Free Zone is a real-time strategy title uses open-source real-world map data to let you set up a zombie survival colony absolutely anywhere on Earth, using REAL LIFE maps. When the menu first booted up and suggested a starting location based on my actual, literal neighborhood, I was instantly hooked.

7.533 Immortal's setup is simple: you and 32 other players drop into a sprawling map with one goal—survive, gear up, and take down a massive boss. It structurally borrows a lot from the Battle Royale genre, but flips the script entirely by making it fully cooperative. You aren't hunting each other; you're just trying to keep the group alive. The pacing feels less like a traditional roguelite and much closer to Diablo 3’s Adventure Mode, where you rove across the map completing minor feats, knocking out regional objectives, and hoovering up upgrades before the big showdown.

8.8You know that exact moment in a city builder where you zoom all the way in just to watch some tiny digital person walk down a street you placed? Town to City takes that specific flavor of dopamine and absolutely crushes it. Exiting early access to deliver its fully realized 1.0 version, it completely discards the sterile, spreadsheet-driven mentality of traditional city management games. Instead, it hands you the keys to a charming, Mediterranean-inspired sandbox, tells you to throw away the ruler, and asks you to just build something beautiful piece by piece. It is messy. It is organic. And it is incredibly hardware-hungry.

Indie Life Sim Contender That's Potentially Coming for the Crown | Paralives Early Access Review reviewParalives—a new, scrappy, hand-drawn-esque indie game built by people that feels like they understand the soul of the genre. Booting up the freshly dropped Early Access build of Paralives feels like stepping into a true modern successor with a touch of Indie flavor. But it is also, undeniably, a very rough draft.

If you’ve been enjoying the trend of playing major PlayStation hits on your PC rig, the party is officially winding down. According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, PlayStation is drastically shifting gears. Moving forward, their massive, single-player blockbusters—like Ghost of Yōtei and Marvel’s Wolverine—are staying locked to the PS5. While multiplayer games like Marathon will still hit PC to keep player counts healthy, Sony is drawing a hard line around their narrative adventures.

7.5If you grew up playing tower defense mods or RTS campaigns just to see how effectively your walls could hold enemy attacks, Diplomacy is Not an Option is your playground, A Medieval Fantasy RTS that is a mix of tower defense, horde survival, RTS, and base building genres.

7.0Sometimes you just want to turn your brain off and build something pretty without worrying about resource management, tech trees, or a dodging enemy attacks. That is exactly the itch Summerhouse tries to scratch. It’s a tiny, lo-fi (optional Pixel Art) building toy that strips away the "game" and leaves you with nothing but a blank canvas and a stack of shingles. It’s meant to be a digital chill-out session, but while the vibes are relaxing, a few clunky design choices keep it from being the seamless escape it wants to be.

8.8Black Myth: Wukong is an action-RPG rooted deeply in the 16th-century Chinese literary classic, Journey to the West. Players step into the fur of the "Destined One," a monkey warrior who bears a striking resemblance to the legendary Sun Wukong. The story isn't just a simple retelling; it’s a soulful journey where you retrace the footsteps of the original Monkey King, seeking to recover lost relics and perhaps reclaim a legacy that was shattered long ago. It’s a narrative-heavy experience, packed with cinematic flair and a deep reverence for its mythological roots.

7.3The legacy of Final Fantasy has always been defined by evolution, but few shifts were as seismic as the move from the strategic, menu-driven command systems of the past to the frantic, real-time action of the modern era. Final Fantasy XV represents the definitive turning point in that saga—a moment where the series traded the safety of turn-based combat for a high-octane, open-world experience. It was an ambitious gamble that aimed to bridge the gap between classic RPG depth and the immediate, kinetic energy of a character-action game.

8.0ShantyTown is a creative, stress-free puzzle game that also happens to be a bite-sized city builder. Eschewing the complex logistics of power grids, budgetary concerns, or population happiness, it focuses on the simple, tactile joy of placing colorful structures in cramped, but charming ShantyTown spaces. It’s a game that respects your time and your creativity, offering a "cozy" experience that feels genuinely restorative without all the pressures and challenges of a typical city builder..

9.0The dual-control system between Hugh and Diana in CAPCOM’s PRAGMATA transforms potential "escort mission" tropes into a rewarding, synchronized action-puzzler reminiscent of The World Ends with You. This core mechanic requires precise, simultaneous management of both characters to deliver satisfying combat synergy.

7.7Tiny Bookshop is a cozy management sim that puts you behind the wheel of a mobile bookstore. Set in the picturesque town of Bookstonbury, the game tasks you with stocking shelves, decorating your trailer, and becoming the community's go-to literary expert. It is a title designed for the "quiet gaming" crowd, focusing on the simple, meditative rhythm of matching the right story to the right reader.

My 2025 Games of the Year write-upBetter late than never! 2025 has been an absolute whirlwind for the industry. From the quiet, snowy peaks of the Yotei mountains to the chaotic, mud-caked battlefields of medieval Bohemia, this year has proven that whether it's a massive AAA sequel or a tight, experimental indie, the bar for "immersion" has been set higher than ever before.
